Artopolis is a unique artist colony in Second Life. Fifteen studios are scattered through the lush jungle and beaches of this tropical island. The aim of Artopolis is to provide a hub for all forms of the arts, whether it be music, poetry, theatre or the visual arts.
On this tour we will visit the studios of 3 of the visual artists on Artopolis to discover the different ways that Visual Art can be experienced in second life and see other sites on this Art-centric island along the way.
Gracie Kendal is the SL avatar for Real Life artist Kristine Schomaker. The works displayed in Kendal’s gallery are vibrant, abstract and huge in scale. As you follow the boardwalk that leads you through the gallery you are presented with a stunning juxtaposition of her Real Life Artwork and the Second Life world it is presented in
Pleasewakemeupidler is an artist who has embraced the possibilities of art in second life creating unique digital art that takes full advantage of the strengths of the digital world. His works are both 2D and 3D and must be experienced to be fully appreciated.
Filthy Fluno is the avatar of another Real Life artist Jeffrey Lipsky. Fluno presents is work in a much more traditional style which shows that Art in Second Life can be very close to Real Life. Though the presentation of his work is very similar to a Real Life gallery Fluno has used second life very creatively in other ways, the gallery is also used as a way for Jeffrey to sell real life prints of his work to people all over the world and his success as an artist in Second Life has transferred to the real world.
